Thank you to our emergency services
Well, the last 24 hours in Tassie have been pretty bleak.
And we’re not out of the woods yet. We’ve had several evacuate now alerts right across the state. My heart especially goes out to the people of Latrobe and other areas hit really badly in the 2016 floods. Some places have only just gotten back on their feet, and now they’re facing this again.
I want to say a massive, massive thank you to all the emergency services making sure everyone is safe during these floods - SES, Police, Fire Service, volunteers and anyone I’ve missed. I know you guys have worked through the night, and potentially put yourself in harm's way, to make sure everyone is okay. Please look after yourselves in the days ahead.
The Tassie flood situation is likely to continue into the weekend, with water still making its way down from the Central Highlands area. Stay safe out there everyone, follow the advice and we'll get through this.
Stage 3 tax cuts here to stay
The Treasurer has confirmed the stage 3 tax cuts are staying. It’s pretty disappointing, to say the least. At a time when people are struggling to put food on the table, this Government is happy to give CEO’s a tax cut. It’s going to cost $244 billion over the next decade.
The PM says it wasn’t their decision, that it was legislated by the former Government. But there’s loads of things the previous government didn’t do, that the Labor Government has. They’ve called a Royal Commission into robodebt. They increased our emissions reduction target. They increased skilled migration.
If they really wanted to change the stage 3 tax cuts, they could. These cuts are unfair, expensive and irresponsible. If you agree with me, sign the petition here and tell the PM to scrap the tax cuts.
I'm not going to stop calling for this. I'll continue calling for the Government to have the guts to walk away from this policy that is bad for our economy.
