Standing up for Veterans
In my very first speech as a Senator I called for a Royal Comission into Veteran Suicide but no one was listening. I didn’t take no for an answer. We organised protests, petitions and tens of thousands of letters from veterans and their families to Members of parliament. It took seven years but in April 2021 every single member of parliament supported a Royal Commission into Veteran Suicide.
I fought hard to get the Royal Commission into Veteran Suicide but the fight insn’t over. Without me and my team in the fight there’s no one to make sure the government does the right thing and follows through with each of the recommendations. I am asking for support to keep me in the fight because veteran’s lives depend on it.
Healthcare for all Tasmanians
Every day Tasmanians tell me they can’t get access to affordable health care and medication when they need it. With the prices of housing and groceries out of control there’s just nothing left over to see a GP or pay for medicine. With both major parties making big promises this election on health and mental health I need your help to hold them accountable and make sure they fund GPs, hospitals and medications so all Tasmanians can get healthcare when they need it.
A Roof Over Every Tasmanian’s Head
I managed to get over $200 million dollars wiped off Tasmania's housing debt nearing doubling our investment in homelessness and public housing. But it still takes years to get public housing and affordable housing is out of reach for many Tasmanians.
I need your support to get me back to Canberra so I hold the next government accountable and make sure the major parties give Tasmanians a fair share of investment in housing funding.
Lowering the Cost of Living
Grocery prices are through the roof. Families are struggling. Energy prices are a key cost of living pressure. Tasmanians deserve reliable, affordable power. We’re fed up listening to the major parties argue about who’s energy solution is better and who’s numbers are wrong, we want to see progress, we want the real problems identified and a plan to fix the problems.
We need to drastically lower electricity prices. The price of electricity is driven by the price of gas and Australia has a lot of gas, but it gets shipped overseas so the multinationals can make huge profits at our cost. This is not about drill baby drill, it’s about managing what we’ve got now, and that’s why we need a national gas reservation policy to ensure Australians can get the benefit from our abundant gas resources.
