Tyrrell secures 1200 homes for Tas

Tell the Greens to back our 1200 homes here.
Senator Tammy Tyrrell has secured a legislated guarantee of 1,200 affordable homes for Tasmania in exchange for the Jacqui Lambie Network’s support for the Housing Australia Future Fund.
As a result of Senator Tyrrell’s negotiations, all states and territories will now receive a minimum of 1,200 homes from the fund, over the next five years.
Senator Tyrrell and Senator Lambie will support the Housing Australia Future Fund when it comes before the Senate.
Lines attributable to Senator Tammy Tyrrell, Jacqui Lambie Network for Tasmania:
“This is a massive victory for Tasmania.
“I’ve worked hard to make sure Tassie gets our fair share with these 1,200 affordable homes over the next five years.
“Without this guarantee, we’d be looking at maybe 600 homes, depending on how the market performs.
"This guarantee doubles the amount of homes Tasmania will receive, in the same amount of time, regardless of the performance of the Future Fund.
“Those extra 600 I’ve secured are enough to house every Tasmanian sleeping rough tonight.
“At the current rate of growth, we’re expecting 1,100 Tasmanians to become homeless in the next five years. These 1,200 homes will mean homelessness can go backwards. That's the first time in my lifetime we've ever been able to say that.
“The only thing standing in the way of this now is the Greens Party.
“Nick McKim and Peter Whish-Wilson are Greens Senators for Tasmania. They aren’t saying how they’re going to vote.
“They can vote yes, and Tasmania gets 1,200 homes. They can vote no, and Tasmania gets nothing.
“We’ve fought to get Tasmania its fair share. The Greens are threatening to leave us with nothing.
“That’s the question Nick McKim and Peter Whish-Wilson need to answer: will you vote for this bill, now it’s guaranteeing 1,200 affordable homes for Tasmania?”
