Aged care meals and Christmas message

We’ve all heard the stories. Meals in aged care homes that you wouldn’t feed your dogs. A few years ago the Federal Government allocated additional funding so that aged care residents wouldn’t be fed on $6 a day anymore.
Well it’s still happening. There were no rules to say where the money had to go there. Some facilities pocketed the money and are still being fed sludge.
I’m horrified by this. These are our parents and grandparents. They should be treated with respect. I spoke about this in the Senate last week - you can take a look here.
I know a lot of people are doing it tough this Christmas. The cost of living is sky high, grocery bills cost a fortune and rent is through the roof.
It means that more people than ever need a helping hand, and are leaning on services like Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul and City Mission. Please consider contributing in some way if you are in a position to do so. It could be a donation for basic supplies or gifts for families in need at Christmas. It could just be purchasing an extra bag of rice at the supermarket and donating it.
I know from my time working with the Salvation Army that a small gesture can really make someone’s day. Maybe even their year!
On a final note - thank you for all your love and support this year. The last six months have been the weirdest and wackiest months of my life, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
All the love,
Tammy
